PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Engineering Lead is responsible for the effective and efficient use of Maintenance & Engineering resources to achieve and sustain asset reliability. This includes planning and implementing the engineering aspects of capital projects. The role helps eliminate waste, improve safety, reduce cost, and increase capability and productivity by continuously improving the reliability of equipment and partnering with production (the customer) and maintenance to improve the process.

This role is also accountable for supporting preventative and predictive maintenance programs for plant equipment and machinery in order to provide optimum run time in the safest and most cost effective manner.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety and Environment

  • Adhere to plant safety responsibilities and maintains safety as first priority.
  • Educates team members on safe maintenance work processes and procedures and enforces good safety practices
  • Ensures clean and environmentally compliant work environment in accordance with local regulations and plant standards
  • Knows and understands plant environmental permits and makes certain that all new equipment meets these requirements
  • Effectively communicates Owens Corning's stand of safety with external parties and ensures that they work according to our safety standards

Operations Support

  • Partners crossfunctionally to ensure engineering projects align with plant priorities to deliver improvements in Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) or similar metrics that measure losses related to quality, availability, and performance
  • Identifies and implements machine and equipment improvements, including ordering parts and services through SAP for Capital and Engineering Projects
  • Implements root-cause analysis and corrective actions for issues surfaced through equipment failures
  • Documents Machine and Equipment Performance Characteristics
  • Develops and enforces Engineering Change Management process
  • Identifies and requests capital funding for equipment, modifications, etc; engages key stakeholders for approval of the funding and the execution of the plan for change
  • Serves as plant liaison and leader with outside technical contractors
  • Aids in the development and implementation of the plant capital plan
  • Other work and responsibilities as directed by the plant leadership

Leading and Developing Talent

  • Develops and executes training plans for maintenance and operations personnel on new or updated equipment
  • Serves as a technical expert for all departments and invests in the growth and development of others
  • Identifies, understands, and teaches operating and preventative maintenance procedures to maintain reliable and productive equipment and machinery

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum of 3 years experience within a manufacturing or technical environment; heavy manufacturing in a continual flow process or paper industry, preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Strong background in Preventative and Predictive Maintenance techniques
  • Experience in six sigma including statistics, trail design, data analysis and control charting
  • Computer and Software competencies, including immediate skills in PLC ladder logic, Microsoft Office Suite, and Business Enterprise Systems (CMMS)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of customer needs (both internal and external), product and machine specifications, basic cost drivers and the Critical Process Variables (CPVs) that impact these elements
  • Knowledge and experience with Root Cause Analysis, FMEA, Kaizen events
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) to effectively communicate with people across all levels of the organization
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Must be able to read industrial blueprints
