PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Working with Professor Ethan Van Arnam, the Research Technician will perform a variety of duties to support a natural products chemistry and antibiotic discovery project. While the overall goal is to collect and interpret data, a Research Technician's work can be broken down into several small duties.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Design and execute scientific research experiments, including laboratory studies and fieldwork.
  • Research scientific literature.
  • Write grants and scientific manuscripts.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Active support for the College's Principles of Community and Principles of Diversity in the performance of job duties.

  • Ability to perform a variety of hands-on laboratory experiments
  • Ability to analyze scientific data

  • Ability to process large amounts of information and manage multiple deadlines efficiently and accurately.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and ability required.

Prior research experience is preferred.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a temporary, full-time, benefits eligible, non-exempt position. The regular hours for this position are Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm. Hours may vary due to the needs of the College or department.

This assignment is expected to be a one-year position, ending on or before June 30, 2025. The position may be renewed for a second year, ending on or before June 30, 2026.

Hourly rate range: $17.00-$18.00. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.
