Job Description

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently seeking a Vehicle Emissions and On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) Calibration Engineer in the EVO group at our Chino, CA facility. EVO undertakes engineering projects related to engine and electrified propulsion management system testing & development, as well as investigating new technology to enhance propulsion performance and emissions control.

Our Team

Electrified Propulsion Performance Development (ePPD) is one of the Engineering Teams in the Vehicle Test & Development (VTD) Division of HATCI. ePPD's mission is to delight our customers and protect our environment. Every day we help make our cars, trucks, and SUVs run cleaner, smoother, and stronger.

Core Responsibilities

  • Engine Management System (EMS) mapping and validation
  • EMS/OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) calibration and validation, including extreme ambient condition tests.
  • EV battery State Of Health (SOH) monitoring and diagnostic development
  • New technology development for enhanced emission regulation and cost reduction
  • Coordination and tracking of test and development plans, project status/progress reports, and execution of project activities through completion.
  • Deep dive technical support for pre-production and post-production issues.
  • Produce and deliver presentations on key project milestones and achievements.
  • Support for EMS manufacturing, quality improvement, field claim investigation, and certification
  • Competitor ICE/HEV-EV vehicle benchmarking
  • Travel domestically and internationally (up to 20%)

Core Capabilities

  • A proven record of technical excellence.
  • Ability to interpret regulations and develop test procedures.
  • A solid understanding of the calibration tuning process.
  • Ability to debug and resolve hardware and software issues.
  • Ability to identify the appropriate instrumentation required for a specific test and proficiently operate data acquisition systems.
  • Technical knowledge of vehicle/engine/HEV-EV propulsion hardware and control systems.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine and emissions aftertreatment fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of CARB and EPA vehicle emissions and OBD regulations, and OBD Monitoring Systems
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior.

Compensation

  • $90,000 - $125,000

Base Qualifications

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or other related engineering degrees from an accredited university
  • Good written/oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications
  • Proficiency in MATLAB/Simulink

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in vehicle propulsion development (e.g. test, validation, other)
  • 2+ years of direct powertrain calibration experience (e.g. combustion, OBD-II)
  • A proven track record of engineering projects related to vehicle emission testing.
  • Knowledge of vehicle test procedures including calibration process/methodology.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation/operation of data acquisition systems such as ETAS/INCA
  • Vehicle PM emission mitigation experience including GPF development and calibration.
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other related fields
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
