The Procurement Buyer, Facilities will be responsible for various procurement categories within Maersk's Warehousing & Distribution Business Unit (warehouses, depots, cold chain) across a wide range of procurement areas including responsibility for all strategic suppliers and vendors within facility management. They will ensure that every dollar spent is spent professionally, which is achieved by reducing operating expenses and driving a value-based mindset by applying procurement capabilities and tools. Facility knowledge of electric, plumbing, HVAC, building and fire systems, and landscaping is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive cost savings for the Company through negotiations and the development of key supplier/vendor partnerships throughout North America for facility management services.
  • Perform supplier market analysis and organize market intelligence for all in-scope categories across NAM North America and benchmark Maersk costs with competition to ensure we are cost competitive.
  • Be the subject matter expert for all soft and hard facility management services, including but not limited to janitorial services, pest control, waste management, electric and lighting, plumbing, heating, and fire systems.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders in North America and Maersk Product Teams including, Operations, Finance, Commercial and other regions in Maersk.
  • Contribute to development of procurement frameworks and processes and assure all supplier and vendor partners conduct business per the Maersk Responsible Procurement Clause.
  • Deliver procurement benefits (realised savings, service level improvements, etc.) and make sure these are realised through measurement and follow-up.
  • Collaborate in annual budget process with Ops and Finance.
  • Lead the charge in Maersk's sustainability efforts, delivering on the decarbonization objective across all facilities.
  • Constantly identify and mitigate risks to strategy delivery, schedule, scope, and resources while balancing competing priorities across multiple strategic initiatives
  • Integrating and centralizing procurement activity for 140+ locations within North America.

Required qualification, experience & skills

  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience (MBA or similar is preferred)
  • 3-6 years of operations or procurement experience
  • Demonstrated problem solving ability, including strong conceptual and analytical skills and ability to turn findings into executable plans.
  • Ability to generate innovative insights from analysis and develop and implement new methodologies and analyses to drive actionable results.
  • Excellent written, oral, and formal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, adjust priorities as needed and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to influence across the organization at multiple levels.
  • Strong project management skills: ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the procurement process, contact negotiations and facility maintenance.
  • Complex negotiation skills and an understanding of responsible procurement practices.
  • Demonstrated history of strong analytical skills with experience in Excel based modelling including the development and use of total cost of ownership (TCO) models.
  • Experience integrating and standardizing varying processes to optimize procurement functions.
  • Experience or knowledge in digitization and automation of standard procurement activities.
  • The ability to manage stakeholders in operations, finance, commercial and corporate.
  • Experience with standard procurement processes such as: category management, sourcing execution, contract management, negotiation strategy, analysis of markets, finances, and supplier.
