Come join our team responsible for the maintenance, diagnoses, and repairs and of a wide variety of diesel, gasoline and natural gas-powered heavy, medium vehicles and equipment. In this role, you will provide technical assistance and complete complex work assignments.

Fleet Technician I: $3,356.44 - $4,079.77 monthly
Fleet Technician II: $3,898.17 - 4,738.24 monthly

We are actively recruiting for the Fleet Technician II position.

Education/Training/Experience:

  • Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Fleet Technician I: One (1) year of experience in the inspection, preventive maintenance, and repair of light vehicles and/or small engine equipment.
  • Fleet Technician II: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible journey-level experience in the inspection, maintenance, and repair of light vehicles and/or small engine equipment.
Special Requirements:

  • California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Fleet Technician II: Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid California Class "A" or Class "B" Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment.

Skills/Abilities


  • Performs preventive maintenance and service work on construction equipment, heavy trucks, back-hoes, automobiles, light trucks, pumpers, ladder trucks, water tenders, and other equipment, including tune-ups, checking and replenishing fluid levels, replacing hoses, belts, batteries, wiper blades, bulbs, and lamps; cleans vehicles.
  • Inspects, maintains, services, and repairs small gasoline engines on a wide variety of maintenance and construction equipment, such as mowers, generators, stump grinders, woodchippers, chain saws, cement saws, compressors, and jackhammers.
  • Inspects City vehicles and equipment for oil leaks, engine noises, fluid leaks, and brake diagnoses; replaces leaking parts with pumps, oil gaskets, and related parts.
  • Prepares list of parts needed to complete repairs on various vehicles; estimates labor, material, and equipment required to complete assignments; completes and updates service records.
  • Inspects and repairs air conditioning systems; replaces coolant hoses when needed; performs carburetor repairs; replaces bulbs and wiper blades.
  • Inspects and repairs tires as needed; repairs flat tires; inspects and repairs suspension systems as needed; replaces shocks, struts, and control arms; inspects for worn suspension parts and replaces as needed.
  • Diagnoses engine electronic computer using diagnostic scope; checks for codes and repairs as needed; replaces modules; makes electrical repairs; uses miscellaneous gauges and specialty tools to diagnose and make repairs.
  • Inspects, repairs, and maintains vehicle brake systems and hydraulic systems.
  • Inspects and diagnoses engine noises and operations; conducts oil pressure tests; performs engine teardown to inspect and repair internal engine.
  • Inspects for differential and or driveline repairs; replaces pinion seals, driveline center support bearings, u-joints, and differential repair; replaces bearings and repairs differential leaks.
  • Performs alternative fuel maintenance; refills fluids in vehicles when needed.
  • Drops off and picks up vehicles at various venders and dealerships.
  • Repairs or inspects damaged vehicles at various locations.
  • Maintains building inside and outside; picks up trash, mops floors, cleans and washes wash rack, and trash cans outside fire building.

THE ORGANIZATION

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.

The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.

The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2024 is $ 369.9 million with a General Fund operating budget of $ 194.5 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 860 dedicated employees who provide high quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
