Masimo is looking for a summer intern to join our Packaging Engineering team. Job Summary:

This position will support the R&D Design Engineering team by contributing to the structural design, testing, and implementation of packaging configurations utilized in Masimo's medical devices.

Major Responsibilities:

• Design new and improve on existing packaging structure configurations for various product lines across the company:
  • Utilizing packaging design software to show iterative progress of design in weekly meetings.
  • Creating physical sample mock-ups out of 2D and 3D designs.
  • Cross-functional discussions with internal stakeholders on use cases, target pack quantities, and pallet configurations.
• Validating new/modified packaging design structures:
  • Work with test engineers on in-house packaging ship testing.
  • Generate corresponding ship test reports.
• Implementation of new packaging configuration:
  • Work with Manufacturing Engineering on development of Work Instructions and Acceptance Criteria.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Excellent conceptual, analytical, and problem-solving ability.
• Creative outlook while maintaining a Design for Manufacturing (DFM) mindset.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to effectively interface within a cross-functional team environment.
• Experience working with sustainable packaging solutions such as custom corrugated and paperboard designs, paper pulp thermoformed trays, rigid box configurations, and paper-based label adhesives.
• Experience working with ArtiosCAD, Solidworks, CapePack, AutoCAD, and Adobe Illustrator.
• Experience working with Cutting/Plotter tables and 3D printers.

Education:

• Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in Packaging Science or Packaging Engineering.
• Must be a current university student to qualify as an intern. Alum candidates and students graduating May/June 2024 are not eligible for intern opportunities.

Location:

• This position will report on-site in Irvine, CA Monday - Thursday.
