Overview

The Drainage Engineer will perform engineering duties mostly related to drainage and stormwater management in planning, designing, and providing Design Services During Construction (DSDD) for projects mainly focused on highways, roads, and bridges. Major clients include Caltrans, regional transportation agencies and authorities, cities, and developers. This position will provide the opportunity to design under the supervision of a licensed Professional Engineer.


Responsibilities

  • Have some knowledge and experience that helps the coordination with other disciplines such as roadway design, utilities, and retaining walls.
  • Perform hydrology and hydraulics study to support Senior Engineers. Perform Hydrology and hydraulic modeling.
  • Perform drainage and BMPs design to support Senior Engineers.
  • Ability to design hydraulic elements such as culverts, levees, and storm drain systems
  • Preparing the supporting analysis and documents for reports under the direction of the senior engineer. Experience in preparing WQMP and SWPPP reports is desirable.
  • Under supervision, performs routine engineering work while developing professional proficiency. Can be removed
  • On design assignments, works to learn how to clearly convey the design intent through engineering drawings and specifications
  • On assignments involving investigations and planning, works to learn the local policies and practices of engineering processes and implement them successfully
  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Uphold engineering ethics and standards of conduct
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Software experience is preferrable and it includes: Aquaveo WMS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, ArcGISm

Qualifications

    • A BS degree in civil or environmental engineering, with background of hydrology, hydraulics or environment is required.
    • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam highly desired.
    • The candidate shall possess 5 to 12 years of experience in the civil engineering field.
    • Technical writing skills are a plus.
    • Previous experience with Caltrans and in highway and roadway design will be favored but is not required.
    • Ability to work with a PC computer platform environment, with experience of hydrology and hydraulic modeling.
    • Must have adequate written and oral communication skills, flexibility when under strict deadlines and a professional can-do attitude. Proficiency with MicroStation is required, additional AutoCAD experience a plus.
    • Experience with Microsoft Excel, including specific experience with filtering data, pivot tables, and basic algebraic functions, is a plus
  • Compensation: In accordance with local law, the following compensation range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition: $80,000-$95,000. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors.

Salary Range

USD $80,000.00 - USD $95,000.00 /Yr.
