Job Description

Mott MacDonald's transportation and infrastructure teams work on some of the biggest and most challenging projects across the US. We've completed and are currently involved in a whole host of amazing solutions to complex projects, incorporating our values of sustainability and improving communities. The Senior Structural Engineer will provide support on bridge and underground projects. You will be part of a team that is responsible for the preparation of conceptual, preliminary, and final design plans, specifications, and estimates. Typical projects will include rail / LRT / road bridges, and underground and retaining structures.

In addition to the overarching responsibility, your day-to-day will include:

  • Planning and design of structural projects including initial and final designs, bridges, buildings, excavation support systems, foundations, and underground structures predominately for transit, highway and water projects
  • Acts as part of a team of professionals on multiple projects. Ability to identify and solve design and construction challenges is required
  • Interacts with team members and assists in the coordination of work among engineers and detailers
  • Client communications
  • Work with Mott MacDonald's larger structures practice regionally and globally on technical excellence and resource planning
  • Prepare and monitor work plan, scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Assists in business development and marketing projects. Meet with clients to demonstrates the firm's capabilities, determines client's needs, and prepare proposals based on estimated work hours and firm's schedule of fees.
  • Assign personnel to various projects and monitor their progress.


We invite applications from candidates with the following experience:

  • A Master's in structural engineering is preferred, but a BS in civil engineering or equivalent is required.
  • Degree(s) should be structural or civil engineering.
  • 15+ years of experience in structural engineering experience preferably in bridge and/or underground projects
  • Experience with underground structures, cut and cover, diaphragm walls, and temporary support of excavation
  • Professional Engineer status in California or Washington, or the ability to obtain such qualification soon, is highly desirable
  • Prepare and monitor work plan, scope, schedule, and budgets
  • Experience communicating with clients as a project engineer and/or structural engineer is desirable
  • Knowledge of any of AASHTO, CALTRANS/WSDOT and AREMA bridge design or IBC is desirable

Salary Range: $140,000-$165,000
