Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Guitar Center Company is a leading and dynamic retailer, known for its commitment to delivering exceptional products and services to customers nationwide. With a strong online presence, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director of Search SEM to lead our digital marketing efforts and drive the growth of our e-commerce business.

You will play a pivotal role in driving online visibility, customer acquisition, and revenue growth through effective SEM strategies. You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive SEM campaigns, optimizing performance, and staying abreast of industry trends to ensure our retail brand maintains a strong online presence.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership Strategy & Development:

  • Lead and mentor a team of SEM professionals, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence
  • Drive growth by maximizing incremental revenue and acquiring new customers from paid search
  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance, making data-driven adjustments to optimize for ROI and other key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Establish best practices for creating, implementing, tracking, analyzing and optimizing Paid Search campaigns
  • Evaluate new technologies, strategies and techniques across the search landscape to continually refine and improve strategies
  • Create a roadmap for continual innovative testing to drive growth and ongoing optimization to drive efficiencies and achieve performance targets

Product Knowledge:

  • Manage all aspects of paid search campaigns, including budget allocation, bid optimization, and performance analysis
  • Past experience handling direct management of paid search budgets of at least $30m+ annually
  • Develop and manage SEM budgets to achieve marketing goals while maintaining cost-effectiveness.
  • Obsess over data. Analyze performance metrics to drive profitable growth
  • Stay informed about industry trends and emerging technologies to identify new opportunities for optimization
  • Ensure compliance with search engine policies, best practices, and legal requirements.

Performance Measurement:

  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance, making data-driven adjustments to optimize for ROI and other key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Regularly track and report on spending, ensuring adherence to allocated budgets.
  • Utilize analytics tools (E.g. Adwords, Bing, GA4, Adobe) to monitor, analyze, and report on the performance of SEM initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates to key stakeholders, highlighting successes, areas for improvement, and actionable insights
  • Conduct A/B testing and other optimization strategies to continually improve bidding, copy, landing pages, and overall campaign performance.
  • Evaluate tests results using statistically significant calculators to determine if the results meet success criteria and if they are statistically significant.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with technical teams to ensure optimization of product feed for Paid Search
  • Collaborate with creative and content teams to ensure content meets both user and search engine requirements
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing, product, and sales, to ensure cohesive and integrated digital marketing strategies
  • Collaborate with external agencies and vendors as needed to achieve business objectives

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (5+ years) in a leadership role overseeing SEM strategies for large-scale e-commerce platforms.
  • 10+ years hands-on experience running paid search campaigns, with a focus on direct response within retail and ecommerce
  • Experience in managing bid optimization platforms (DART Search, Kenshoo, Marin)
  • Advanced MS Excel fluency
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Omniture, AdWords, Google Search Console, and other relevant platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.

Pay Rate: $175,000-$195,000/yr depending on background and experience.

This position is eligible to participate in the Guitar Center Company bonus program based on Company performance.
