What does the job involve?

Summary: Sets up and operates at least one type of tube bending machine and able to bend metal tubing to the desired curvature(s), including jobs with multiple bends.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Under general supervision, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:

  • Sets up tube bending machine using assembly jigs and saw fixtures, following procedure as outlined on work orders and standardized set-up cards.
  • Selecting and installing proper mandrel and radius, hold, and slide blocks, sets and adjusts clamps and slide blocks.
  • Ability to progressively trial bends using care, compensating for tube misalignment, wall thickness distortion, and wrinkling.
  • Operates machine to perform any tube bending of forming operations within its normal capacity.
  • Performs rework, repair and other associated operations in connection with the work described.
  • Checks finished parts to saw fixtures or assembly jig.
  • Assists higher classified workers as required.
  • Ability to make machine adjustments to perform single and multiple bends.
  • Maintain minimum output of 80%.
  • Maintain minimum product quality acceptance of 93%.
  • Follow all Senior policies and procedure.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High School Degree or General Education Degree; or 3 months- 1 year of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills:

  • Language: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Other Abilities: Must be able to use standardized set-up card. Must have an elementary knowledge of the bending characteristics of tubing. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints.

Tools used:

  • Hand tools, measuring instruments such as micrometers, protractors, scales, rules and circumference tape.

Materials used:

  • Ferrous and non-ferrous metals and their alloys. Embery cloth, clamps, cleaning solvent, and welding gases.
