SUMMARY
The HR Compliance Specialist is responsible for identifying all applicable California employment compliance obligations, implementing all projects and initiatives related to California employment practices compliance, and auditing those programs once implemented. This individual is also responsible for researching emerging California compliance issues, collecting, analyzing, and tracking compliance-related data for management review as it relates to payroll, wage and hour requirements, employment laws, and other HR related activities. The specialist will work to ensure company policies, procedures, and practices comply with federal and California state employment laws.

**The ideal candidate will reside in California. This position is remote with travel to Orange County and Los Angeles.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducts audits and analyzes data related to meal and rest breaks, time and attendance to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.
  • Compiles and analyzes HR data, develops and communicates conclusions and recommendations to continuously improve human resources practices
  • Monitors compliance email inbox and correspondence; timely responds to employee inquiries, prioritizes and escalates sensitive matters when needed. Works with HR
  • Leadership and General Management to develop corrective action plans and identify opportunities for training and education and system roles to continuously improve HR compliance practices.
  • Has a working knowledge of statutes that may impact payroll (such as FLSA, travel and relocation regulations, California labor and employment laws) and knowledge of best practices/emerging developments in the employment law area, including but not limited to payroll, human resources practices, and timekeeping.
  • Supports Human Resource compliance by staying abreast of regulatory changes impacting California employers and employees; communicates regulatory updates; and supports the implementation of designated changes
  • Implements special projects by clarifying project objectives, setting timetables and schedules; conducting research; developing and organizing information
  • Knowledge of California state employment requirements related to market increases, leave policies, vacation/sick policy, meal and rest breaks, pay.
  • Maintains skill set through continuing education and both professional and personal development.
  • Other duties as assigned

MUST HAVE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree plus 5-7 years’ experience in an employment compliance role, experience researching employment laws, experience implementing and monitoring a compliance program or advanced degree and equivalent work experience
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational and work prioritization skills
  • Ability to create, maintain, and improve processes to increase overall team efficiency
  • Exemplary analytical capabilities and problem-solving skills including experience with analyzing large amounts of data and developing metrics, reporting mechanisms, and audit reports
  • Excellent written/verbal communication skills
