Clinical Instructor of Medicine (Practitioner) Medical Oncology Keck School of Medicine Faculty Los Angeles, California

The Department of Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California is seeking outstanding applicants to fill a Nurse Practitioner in the Division of Medical Oncology. The Hematology Oncology NP under the direction of a Hematologist Oncologist assists in the care of patients with a variety of hematologic oncologic disorders (malignant and non-malignant). The NP will also assist other personnel to ensure high quality delivery of patient care and services to this patient population. He/She will medically manage patients and dictates clinic notes in the ambulatory clinic. Orders medications, diagnostic studies, and therapeutic procedures related to their illnesses and track results timely. Maintains records in Keckcare (Cerner) accordingly. Responsible for routine medical management review of these patients with collaborating physician(s). Be available to meet with hospitalized patients for this population as needed. Communicates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care. Collaborate with supervising physician and medical director to develop protocols or redefining the management of this patient population taking into account clinical acuity and cost perspectives. Will monitor compliance of protocols, and work with QI department for process improvement regarding the care of the hematologic oncologic patients. Provides education and support to the patients and families. Provides education to the hospital staff regarding treatment modalities for these patients when needed. Supports and participates in clinical research studies involving patients as appropriate; works closely with physicians as necessary to obtain data for publication. Acts as a liaison between patient(s) and multiple medical/surgical disciplines involved in the care of these patients; communicates plan of care with referring physicians. Works to maintain and establish new relationships with referring physicians; works with clinic leadership team regarding program development, marketing and target populations

Minimum Field of Expertise/Required License and Certification: Possession of current certificate of completion from a Nurse Practitioner program. Current and valid California State RN and Nurse Practitioner licenses, and Basic Cardiac Life Support certification. Clinical nursing experience. A fire and safety certification is required. If applicant does not have this certification upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire, and maintained by renewal before expiration date.

JOB LOCATION: Orange County - around Newport Beach, CA
