Gender Equity Resources Coordinator Student Affairs Los Angeles, California

Position Summary

The Gender Equity Resources Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member, reporting to the Student Equity & Inclusion Programs Manager for Signature Programs. The Coordinator is tasked with mission-driven leadership of its student staff, as well as programming, development, advocacy, outreach, relationship-building, and mentoring/advising. The Coordinator also represents the department and the needs of gender-diverse students on a variety of committees, collaborative projects, and University events. As a staff member of the Student Equity & Inclusion Programs team, the Coordinator serves as a social justice educator and offers capacity building workshops and seminars for other units.

Because the department is uniquely positioned as a bridge between the Los Angeles/ Southern California gender-diverse communities and the campus, the Coordinator is also tasked with relationship-building with off-campus community members and other organizations for the purpose of student engagement and development.

Gender Equity Resources

Gender Equity Resources is an initiative within the Student Equity & Inclusion Programs (SEIP) that seeks to engage the USC student community across topics of gender empowerment and gender socialization and build a more equitable student experience for students of all gender identities. Gender Equity Resources programs across 4 core pillars: intersectional feminism, deconstructing masculinity, body positivity, and resources for parenting students.

Student Equity & Inclusion Programs (SEIP)

USC Student Equity & Inclusion Programs is a cluster of student development centers and initiatives within the Division of Student Affairs that offer student support services and programs that focus on intersectionality, sense of belonging, and well-being. Student Equity & Inclusion Programs consists of Asian Pacific American Student Services, Center for Black Cultural and Student Affairs, First Generation Plus Success Center, Latinx/Chicanx Center for Advocacy and Student Affairs, LGBTQ+ Student Center, Student Basic Needs, and the Veterans Resource Center. SEIP facilitates dialogue, community-building, and leads campus-wide equity and inclusion initiatives that impact the student experience.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Initiate, plan, and organize programs supporting sense of belonging, intersectional identity-development, education, and well-being for students of all gender identities.
  • Assist with the implementation of programs from the various SEIP centers and initiatives that focus on gendered experiences and gender equity.
  • Plan and implement large-scale SEIP and university events, such as Welcome Experience programming, Women's History Month programming, and cultural graduations.
  • Manage annual hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of undergraduate student staff and volunteers within Gender Equity Resources to accomplish programs, projects, and operation of the initiative.
  • Assist with professional development and cultural competency trainings around diversity and inclusion for students.
  • Present to campus partners and university stakeholders about SEIP centers, initiatives, programs, and resources.
  • Administer program operations and administrative functions such as hiring, budget, marketing, trainings, outreach, assessment, and strategic planning.
  • Serve as a key resource for resolution on university diversity and inclusion-related events and incidents.
  • Interface with student, staff, faculty, and external contacts for committee work or information exchange regarding program services or content.
  • Stay informed of development in the field through data gathering, assessment, benchmarking, and networking with peer institutions and professional associations.
  • Assist with developing and implementing SEIP assessments on campus climate, sense of belonging, and program improvements.
  • Provide resource referrals to staff, student workers, volunteers, graduate students, and campus constituents regarding issues or topics such as bias and discrimination incidents, students in crisis, mental health concerns, and overall campus climate.

Other Key Responsibilities

  • Help establish the founding and the vision of the initiative by connecting with student stakeholders and assessing programmatic and student-support needs.
  • Strengthen and maintain the mission-focused goals and learning outcomes for the initiative and its programs.
  • Serve as a resource for and collaborator with individual student organizations and campus programming entities.
  • Continue existing and build new collaborative relationships with on-campus and off-campus partners to maximize resources and effectively meet programming needs.
  • Assist with marketing and develop the social media presence of the department as well as engage with students through various social media platforms.
  • Develop a formal network of resources to support students within the Division of Student Affairs, academic units, the campus community, and the off-campus community.
  • Serve as an advocate for and information resource to gender-diverse students.
  • Provide information about Gender Equity Resources and Student Equity & Inclusion Programs at orientation, prospective student fairs, and other internal/external events.

This position will include periodic extended work hours and weekend assignments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in the field of student development or relevant experience managing student programs in a higher education setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and national research, issues, and current events regarding college students, particularly marginalized populations.
  • Demonstrated depth of knowledge regarding diversity and heterogeneity of student populations of all genders.
  • The ability to translate knowledge and theory into programming and resources designed to support students' retention and success.
  • Strong advising and program development skills.
  • Proven presentation and communication skills.
  • Strong background in assessment and evaluation.
  • Student staff supervision experience a plus.

Position Category/Grade: Student Programs Advisor II

The annual base salary for this position is $64,480.00. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
