Job Description
Specialized Laboratory Technician - Histology, TRLab School of Pharmacy Los Angeles, California

Translational Research Lab (TRLab) at USC School of Pharmacy is equipped with over 80 laboratory instruments located in 12 lab spaces for sample processing, histology, cell and immunological biology, imaging, molecular analysis, molecular biology and sequencing research applications.

TRLab has an immediate open position for a self-motivated, customer service-oriented individual who can assist with Histology services and TRLab daily operation and equipment maintenance. Under the supervision of the Associate Director, the successful candidate will have a unique opportunity to work in a team-oriented environment that provides comprehensive research services to advance translational research endeavors in the USC research community and external collaborative partners.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • Ability to quickly learn to operate and maintain histological equipment and procedure
  • Ability to successfully prioritize and complete multiple ongoing projects in fast-paced environment
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills: advanced fluency in written and oral English
  • Strong customer service orientation with professional, ethical behavior and positive, team-oriented attitude.

Job Responsibilities

Histology Lab services

  • Assist core service by ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare, operate, & maintain equipment
  • Manage inventory of received tissue specimens
  • Process and embed tissues
  • Perform microtomy (microtome and cryostat) on tissue samples
  • Prepare and select proper dyes and chemicals for staining (e.g. H&E)
  • Serve as a resource to train and assist researchers

TRLab

  • Perform routine laboratory duties to maintain lab spaces and equipment
  • Manage stock and order inventories
  • Assist in record keeping
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations for trainings and seminars

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in related science field

Minimum Experience: 2 years

Minimum Qualifications: previous histology experiences on tissue handling, processing, embedding, sectioning and staining.

Preferred Qualifications: 2-year experience of histology experiences combined with hands-on laboratory experience on equipment management/maintenance and/or lab training. Experiences at core facility in related science field are plus.

The hourly rate range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00. Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Specialized/technical training Minimum Experience: 3 years Minimum Field of Expertise: Fully competent and proficient in the operation of sophisticated scientific equipment and independently able to perform complex procedures and techniques with accuracy
