Division Overview
Hubbell Construction & Energy (HCE) focuses on products to support four business segments: Connectors, Grounding & Tooling, Gas Connectors & Accessories, Harsh & Hazardous, and Distribution. Position Overview


The first-line supervisor oversees all workers on the production floor, also makes sure the equipment and supplies needed are available, carry out company production goals, which directly affect profits, see that production runs smoothly, must understand all the parts of the production process, what jobs need to be done and who does them, also see to it that these jobs are done correctly. Make sure that people are working up to capacity and that they have a reasonable workload. Teach workers new jobs and sometimes fill in for workers who are absent.

Duties and Responsibilities

* Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
* Estimates worked hour requirements for completion of job assignment, according to production schedule.
* Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
* Interprets specifications, prints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
* Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules.
* Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
* Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.
* Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists workers in solving work problems.
* Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
* Maintains a safe, clean work environment on production floor.
First responder to accident or injury. Must use good judgment and decision making in response to emergency situations including but not limited to application of first aid, contacting and transporting to the clinic, contacting company and emergency personnel as needed.
Support team leaders and production workers in daily activities. Primary responder to abnormal conditions beyond the capability of the production cell personnel. Call for resources outside of production if support is needed from the Plant Manager, maintenance, quality engineering, product specialist, or any other production support function.

Ensures all work performed within area of responsibility is conducted to quality standards. Stops process and implements corrective action when abnormality is discovered.
Verifies customer orders are complete and checks for quality issues before shipment.

Performs minor troubleshooting and maintenance to equipment and operates production machinery when there is a personnel shortage.

Documents all department functions and production status report for first shift daily.

Responsible for promoting continuous improvement on production floor.

Serves as role model for team leaders and all team members in production area.
Responsible for shut down, closing, and securing facility at end of shift.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Understand their workers and gain their respect.
Use tact and good judgment when correcting production errors or settling disputes.
Help solve any problems that workers are having with their jobs.
Act as communicator between management and production workers.
Explain company policy to workers and enforce it if necessary.
Praise and encourage workers who have done their jobs well.
Advise management as to which workers deserve promotions, or awards.
When workers do not perform up to par, warn them or, if necessary, recommend that they be discipline.
Must work extended hours as necessary to meet production schedules and support second shift personnel. Start of work and end of work must be flexible depending on the requirements of the production schedules and must be present during shift operations.

Skills and Experience

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communications skills.

Computer Skills: Must have strong Microsoft Office, e-mail and other PC application skills.

Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.

Project Management: Develops project plans; Coordinates projects; Communicates changes and progress; Completes projects on time and budget; Manages project team activities.
