Overview

Schedule and coordinate flow of oil work. Schedule barge deliveries to ships and terminals in the Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. Select and schedule crews for barges. Maintains records, documents and prepares bills for services. May notify Tankerman order changes via telephone or radio. May dispatch crews to barges in response to emergency requests from captains or management. Track company and crew performance and activities.

Responsibilities
    Schedules and coordinates flow of work based on customer orders, establishes priorities and availability of personnel, equipment and resources.
  • Ensure barges are properly crewed and operated.
  • Maintain records and prepare bills for services as well as notification reports.
  • Develop and monitor procedures and programs to track company and crew activities.
  • Use of Computer, Fax Machine, Copier, Radio Telephone.
  • Perform in the company Spill Management team as assigned.
  • Assist with general office clean up as necessary.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3 years of increasingly responsible management experience in the maritime industry.
  • Four-year college education in Maritime or related studies or equivalent experience, preferred.
  • Computer Skills: Word, Excel, Web-based schedule.
  • Knowledge of oil transportation and marine industry.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar with tank barge operations, ship operations, and terminal/refinery operations.
  • Knowledge of tug and barge maintenance systems and equipment.
  • Ability to deal with others using courtesy, tact, and good judgment.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive communications.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal or no guidance.
  • Ability to work with office staff and vessel crew members.
  • Must be able to read, speak, write, type, and understand English in person and over the telephone.
Job Condition and Environment
  • Working in the office.
  • May be required to occasionally board tugs and barges.
  • Work with computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones.
  • Infrequent light physical effort required
Expected Hours of Work

Once training is completed scheduled dispatchers work twelve (12) hour shifts on a rotation of four (4) shifts on and four days off. Work two (2) days from 0700 - 1900 and two (2) nights 1900 - 0700. Capable of making decisions and giving directions to facilitate prompt service delivery.
