Overview

As a Sr Data Engineering Manager with Certara, you are part of a global, fast-paced IT organization with the primary mission to provide capable & resilient world class services to professional services, software, and corporate business units ensuring our team members have access and ability to perform at the highest level in service of our customers.

The Information Technology function relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals through implementation of industry best practice methodologies, governance, and tooling. The Sr Data Engineering Manager role is responsible for the design and creation plus subsequent management and efficient operations of a cloud hosted data warehouse. The role will also establish data analysis capabilities via PowerBI and implement an integration platform strategy to govern the necessary data extractions. This role ensures team members, business stakeholders and executive management understand the tactical operations and strategic direction of the unfolding BI and data warehouse offerings, as well as managing expectations and progress updates on various initiatives in flight.

The role requires a rich understanding of data warehouse design principles as applied to empower organizational wide business intelligence efforts. The candidate should be comfortable and effective at driving conversations with each and every business unit to thoroughly understand operational practices unique to Certara and identify source systems from which to draw data to meet the needs of every level of leadership to measure and direct the company.


Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Sr Director, Enterprise Apps & Analytics, the Sr Data Engineering Manager is responsible for initiating and managing central corporate data warehouse, governing BI accessibility via PowerBI and implementing an integration platform.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand business objectives and identify opportunities for leveraging data intelligence to drive strategic decision making and operational efficiencies.
  • Design and execute comprehensive intuitive data strategies, including data collection, storage, processing, and analysis to enable effective data-driven insights and solutions.
  • Manage Power BI reporting environment and related support of the Data Analyst community.
  • Leverage technology to automate data ingestion from relevant external and internal sources
  • Deliver an environment that allows for scalability to match company growth plus ease of use and accessibility for wide ranging audience of internal BI analysts
  • Work with Corporate Audit and IT Compliance teams to define and maintain an effective suite of SOX/ITGC controls governing the retrieval, storage and accessibility of data.
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and advancements in data intelligence, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and big data technologies, and apply them to solve complex business challenges.
  • Provide appropriate documentation defining data terms and outlining access
  • Develop repeatable processes and procedures to migrate data during acquisitions
  • Prioritize data delivery needs to align with the focus of the business.

Qualifications

  • Experience with modern architecture patterns, data warehousing methodologies, cloud solutioning, ETL/ELT, DataOps, semantic layers, access management patterns, etc...
  • Strong understanding of data management practices, data modelling (data vault 2.0), master data management, data integration, data architecture, data virtualization, data warehousing, data privacy and security
  • Experience with cloud technologies like Snowflake, Azure, OCI, etc..
  • Expertise with SQL, developing, deploying, data modelling and data pipelines on AWS or similar other cloud environments.
  • Strong background with ETL is required
  • Experience with common integration platforms like Boomi, Workato, Snaplogic, etc...
  • Familiarity with common BI tools like PowerBI and Tableau
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with stakeholders, facilitating discussions, and conveying complex technical concepts. Ability to educate and guide stakeholders while maintaining data quality standards and delivering a high-quality data product is necessary.
  • Resilient problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Flexibility - able to meet changing requirements and priorities
